arm patch looks the same although it would be better in colour. The Divisional Officer and Chief are the dame ones we had in Dec. Although the Chief was replaced by Chief Darveaux early 52. Hope this helps

Comments: Great site. I joined the RCNVR at HMCS York in April 1944 just before my 18th birthday. After training was sent overseas to HMCS Niobe to join HMCS Crusader, but was sent home for 30 days leave because I had signed to go to the Pacific.Spent some time on HMCS Border Cities preparing her to go to the West Coast, but as usual things got fouled up. We were paid a month and a half Pay in advance one day -confined on board (so we would have money for the trip and the various ports we would see on the way) and the next day drafted ashore. A new Crew was put on board (not RCNVR but RCN new entries) Went down to Slackers and upon arrival noticed the tree Tribals were tied up and the Hands were scaping the portholes with razors to remove the grey paint then polishing the brass with Brasso. At that point I said NO THANKS this is not what I want to do for the next several years. Went into HMCS Perigine and got discharged in January 1946. Was lucky to get my old job back and stayed with the Company until I retired in June 1990. ( 46 1/2 years).I became a Ham Radio Operator (VE3NID)and enjoy this fun thing. Belong to the Toronto Naval Club but not very active.

Comments: I accidently came across your very interesting site and wish to compliment you on your good work.

I served in the RCNR back in '62 to '64. I was very fortunate to have seen the Tribals on their last cruise on the great lakes back in '63. I served a month on the Haida and a couple of weeks on the Nootka.

I was going to join the Navy but in those days they were talking about Unification and that was not for me. Instead I enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired in '85. Today I work for the U.S. Navy in Norfolk.

In an effort not to forget where I came from I have been a Friend of Haida for many years. I visited the ship several times and feel blessed to have at least served a month on it.

Again, you have an interesting site.
