Comments: Hi Mate: I sailed on the Gatineau, Bonnie, Cape Breton,Ottawa.
Was in the Navy From 1962-1969.Had some pretty good times, and I don't think anything could have made my life any better if I'd not have been there.
I've looking for the old songs we used to sing, I've found a couple but I'd like to find more. you sure bring a lot of fond memories here.

I'll keep in touch

Comments: Hi Tom, it is a while since I've been in touch but I visit your site quite often, I thought you might like to know that during my long awaited return to western Canada (done the Rocky Mountaineer Train tour from Banff to Vancouver) I was able to visit HMCS DISCOVERY in Vancouver and HMCS NADEN while I was in Victoria, visted the museum at NADEN which is worth a view and was fortunate to go aboard HMCS CALGARY which was a highlight during my tour, incidently while visiting the museum I was able to purchase some six back copies of The Crowsnest magazine which were published during the time which I served in the RCN from 1958 to 1961, I would still like to hear from any old colleagues who were in Cayuga division at CORNWALLIS from Sept 1958 till Jan 1959, and or anyone who served on HMCS NEW GLASGOW from June 1959 till Oct 1960.

Comments: Enjoyed reading all the entries. I joined the RCN at Chippewa in Winnipeg in October, 1956. I was at Cornwallis in Kootenay XVI from November, 1956 to the end of March, 1957. After being drafted to Naden, I was given the choice of a draft to the Ontario, which was on it's way to Australia, or pick up cigarette butts until June, and be drafted as commissioning crew of the brand new DDE Fraser. I chose the Fraser, and got to see a lot of the west coast of North America plus a great spring cruise in 1958 to the Far East, including Pearl Harbor, Japan, and Saigon. Would love to hear from anyone who I might have met along the way.

Comments: I just found this site and must say it is a fantastic tribute to the RCN.

My dad, Elgin Helps was in the RCN from around '56 to 1966. He worked on the Trackers, and went to sea on the Bonnie.

Is there anyone out there that perhaps remembers my dad?..I note that the Cornwallis Museum has a great collection of recruit grad pics, and I am hoping that someone might recall what recruit division he was in, and perhaps which year. My mom cant really recall the year, but it may have been '55, but more than likely it was '56 or '57.

Comments: Happy New Year's Day, 2006, I found this site while researching a novel I'm writing about my deceased grandfather and his involvement, which was a little more than just clandestine, in the quiet wee hours of a night in 1944. His youngest son, my father Albert W. Mayer, attended Cornwallis and served upon the two destroyers, HMCS Cayuga & HMCS Ontario. He has filled my ears with a number of stories of pranks of himself and others and has filled my eyes with many wonderful pictures he took of his shipmates, his ports of call, and associated scenery!! He's going to be 71 years old this spring and is just recovering from a knee replacement.... & has very begrudgingly pulled up anchor and tied off at the dock for the last time about four years ago... I hope to get his permission to post all his photos somewhere on the 'net...perhaps on this site. Does anyone remember the actress and/or singer, by the name of Rosa Rosalee??. He has pictures of her 'mingling' with you sailors !! with love, from Kathryn Mayer, DOB: 15/09/57
