He had a short stint in the RCN, but I think someone out there must have known him then. My dad passed away last year, and through the help of others, I am learning about him more every day.

Comments: Seeking Ray LAGUFF (wife Lily) who was last known to be in Belleville Ontario. Ray served aboard HMCS Labrador when she made her historic circumnavigation of North America, which was recounted in the book "The Ice Was All Between" by T. A. Irvine.

Ray lent me his copy c1964. For some long forgotten reason, it was never returned to him. I still have it, but would like to return it to him and/or his family. Have tried to find [them] to no avail. So if anyone knows where they are, please let me know!

Pusser Spitfire = the cruisers' Walrus a/c

Train smash = sausages and stewed tomatoes

Toothwright = the dentist

Blacklistman = also a defaulter

Housey = the C.P.O.'s and RN's version of bingo, but with 99 numbers. Many had names: Legs 11; Clickety-clik 66; Baker's Dozen 13, Top o'The hosue 99, etc.

I'd argue with the Splice the Main Brace definition - not necessarily a double tot, but an ordered extra issue

It is strange how often and in varied places I have bumped into Jerry Proc from Friends of Haida. By the way, In your pictures of Cornwallis today, the building between the parade square and the RR station, is the Gunnery School from WWII. In spite of a signal in August of 1943, I spent 10 weeks in seamanship training at Cornwallis before going to St.Hy in March of '44. I have several pictures of Wallaceburg from the '93 Reunion including some of her in her home port of Wallaceburg in '43.

Comments: Hi Tom....Just checking back, site looks great as usual.

I'm doing some research for a friend, They are looking for a long lost Uncle, OSEM John Wesely Awde. He was in Gatineau Division 1/64 in Cornwallis. Served from about 1963-65. Appears to have gone AWOL early in 1965 and his family have not heard from him since. I believe he was an apprentice, as he joined when he was only 16. Was 18 when he went missing. Don't have all his info, Ships etc. but when I do I'll post it, maybe someone remembers him...

They can email me. Some confidentiality to be observed on this one.

I joined the RCN in 1963 and was on the Sioux on both her lakes cruise and the trip to Nfld. which was right before (I believe) she was paid off. I was a Naval Storesman and was one of the last off her at that time. I was then drafted to the Cape Scott and made the trip to Easter Island on her as well as Rio. I was then in NRS Albro Lake (which was moved to Mill Cove)while I was there so I guess that was two places that I paid off. I really dont have many pictures of my time in the Navy but do have some fond memories. I live in Hamilton now. Keep up the good work.
