I am giving this link to my mother who has done extensive genealogical research. Perhaps she will be of some help to you. -John

Comments about the web site: I hope the following information will be of use to you. My immediate family on my father's side come from the northernmost county of England, Northumbria from the towns of Blyth and Newbiggen. The only other referance to the name I have found is on the memorial in Northern France to the missing dead of the battle of the Somme (1916). A Spowart is named amongst the Royal Scots Guards. I have also heard the theory that the Spowarts where origionally Flemish wool merchants from a guy selling genealogies in Waterloo station. go figure

Comments about the web site: I am starting to build up quite a list of Spowarts in my family tree- (Its my mothers maiden name)- willing to try and help/work with anyone with a similiar interest. I'm not too far from Dunfermline to check a record or two! My Spowarts also hail from Torryburn- I think your Samuel is more likely to be the child of David Spowart and Catherine Hempseed?

His John & Helen (Ellen) Spowart nee Sim(s) emigrated to Port Chalmers, New Zealand on the Waitara 24 Feb 1876. They came out with their 6 children and John's brother Matthew and settled in the Invercargill area of the South Island. John & Matthew Spowart's parent were John Spowart & Margaret Hill who married 3 Aug 1832 Torryburn. Look forward to hearing from anyone. Cheers Yvonne

Father was my scottish link, divorced my mum before I was born. I believe he's from Edinburg. Name was Michael "Scotty" Spowart. Had lots of siblings but I only know of Kenneth and Joyce Spowart Wallace. My sister Debbie and brother Kevin live in Chicago and they are my only living link to my father.
